The Snowboarding resort of Flachau, Austria is located close to Salzburg and conveniently just off the main highway running south from the city. It is also the birth place of one Hermann Maier.
Flachau forms part of the Salzburg Sport World ski area, with neighbouring resorts such as Altenmarkt and Filzmoos. As well as the vast Ski Amade ski arena, with 25 ski areas, 860km of Pistes and 270 lifts. With the city of Salzburg just north of Flachau the area is popular with Salzburg locals. Flachau is also ideal for those flying into Salzburg on a low cost flight. As the birth place of the most famous current ski racer in Austria, Flachau really has some solid ski foundations. Flachau hosts numerous FIS ski races and after the ski lifts have closed in Flachau, there is still night skiing to keep the guest entertained. Groomed intermediate runs are plentiful although both beginner and advanced skiers are on offer in Flachau.
